Who Needs a Game Licence?
Any person wishing to take deer, wild duck, muttonbird, wallaby, brown quail or pheasant during the gazetted open seasons will require a licence. Game licences are for recreational hunting within prescribed seasons.
General Regulations Applicable to all Species
There are a number of regulations applicable to all species. The important ones are listed below.
Wallabies
Non-commercial Licence Fee: $25.60 (Fee applicable until 30 June 2009) - Commercial Licence Fee: $51.20 (Fee applicable until 30 June 2009) - Bag Limit: none for either wallaby species.
Wallaby Game Season and Licences
With a 12 month wallaby game season, we remind hunters including drivers, spotlighters, and carcass collectors, who are accessing properties for the purpose of hunting under a crop protection (spotlight) permit or wildlife management authority, that they will need to make sure they have the appropriate seasonal recreational wallaby game licence.
Deer
Licence fee: $57.60 - Bag Limit: One adult male deer and one antlerless deer or two antlerless deer. - Spikies may not be taken.
Brown Quail
Licence Fee: $25.60 - Bag Limit: 20 per day
Muttonbird
Licence fee: $25.60 - Bag limit: 25 per day for open colonies in King Island Group, Hunter Group and Furneaux Group. A limit of 15 per day applies on Tasmanian mainland colonies that are open for hunting.
Ringneck Pheasant
Licence Fee: $12.80 - Bag Limit: Three male birds per day.
Wild Duck
Licence fee: $25.60 - Bag Limit: 10 ducks per day, of which not more than four shall be Mountain ducks.
